Frequently Asked Questions

What is meant by neurodivergent?
Neurodivergent refers to an umbrella term that refers to the way a person processes information and interacts with their environment, which is unique from the way a neurotypical individual processes and organizes information and interacts with the world around them.
Do you only work with families with children who have an official medical diagnosis?
No, I work with a broad swath of families with children who, while they may not have a formal diagnosis, are complex in the sense that they have “high needs”, whether that be because they are emotionally intense, strong-willed, or have a marked discrepancy between their social emotional development and their cognitive and intellectual abilities.
Do you specialize in working with children of a certain age?
Yes, I focus my services for families primarily with children ages 3-13. Not only do I have lived experience working with kids of this age group, but I strongly believe, and research suggests, that early intervention for children with complex behavioral challenges results in yields the most effective and lasting results.
How does parent training contribute or reinforce the other supports my child may need and/or is receiving?
Parent training is often cited as a crucial element to a systemic intervention and treatment plan that could include one of a number of the following – medication, individual therapy, social skills groups, etc. for managing and mitigating behaviors associated with ADHD, anxiety, and other related conditions.
Can you support me as I navigate the education system to ensure my neurodivergent child receives the support they need?
Absolutely! I can advise you on how to approach a partnership with your child’s school to ensure your child receives the accommodations and support they need to thrive in a classroom environment. My expertise lies in working within the public school system, specifically Fairfax County Public Schools; however I can also provide guidance on how to identify and think through the decision for transitioning to a private school setting.
Do you collaborate with affiliate partners and/or professionals who can help with evaluating my child, or finding a medical specialist?
Yes, I have an extensive network of professionals whom I work closely with, and can refer out to on an as needed basis.
